A career show on IAS/IPS that took Kolathur by storm
The Career Show on IAS and IPS at Everwin November on 24, 2007 was such a big hit that both the print media such as The Hindu, Deccan Chronicle, Dinathanthi etc. and Electronic media such as the Sun TV and Doordharshan took it to the whole world.
Chennai Collector Jaya and Additional DGP Letika Saran inaugurated the show that had 'Target Civil Services for Pride, Prestige and Privilege'. The 3,200 students of the school besides 1,900 from various 61 schools and 13 colleges in the city visited the show that had 54 displays and other types of presentations.
Mrs. Jaya, speaking on the occasion, said students must choose their career by natural inclination and not by peer pressure or parents' pressure. "Once they choose a career, they should love it and never regret later. For example, when you choose IT sector where the annual salary runs into lakhs, you must be prepared to face the stress and strain attached to the job. I see many taking to this field feeling old even at the age of 30."
The Collector said, "Civil services offers you everything you need from prestige to perks. You can opt for civil services even after settling down with a career." Letika Saran in her address exhorted the student community to put in hard work with a firm mind which is the main prerequisite for IPS. "Anyone intending to pursue Civil Services must be committed to a 24 -hours call of duty.'
Today I see in police jobs many breaking down inconsolably after failing in physical standards test. 'Give me one more chance today itself', they will beg but the rules are against this. You have to study one more year to get that chance. So make up your mind, work hard and you will succeed", the ADGP said.
"Whatever the career you choose, you need to learn to respect people howsoever weak they are in stature" she added.
“Every year we expose students to various career options available in our land. Last year we had ‘English on Show’ focusing on communication skills much needed for careers in IT field. This year it is Civil services”, said V. Mageswari, CEO of the school.
While the Principal B. Purushothaman welcomed the gathering, Iswarya, school pupil leader, proposed a vote of thanks. The programme was presented by Mrs. Dhanya Byju, one of the vice principals.
